The non-baby-related excitement in my life is that I bought a new bike. It's a Novara Transfer, a "european-style" bike, the dude in the shop said, which I think means that it's the kind of bike you enjoy if you like trundling around the city on a nice sunny day and not if you like to weave in and out of traffic at forty miles an hour while wearing lycra. Since I'm firmly in the first camp, I think I'm going to love it. It's the kind of bike that should have a basket, and ideally the basket will have a baguette sticking out of it, but a bag of bagels and a travel mug of coffee probably works too.

It arrives next weekend. I can't wait.

Looks like a fantastic bike. I'd call it a "city bike". Very practical with a rack (I lug a lot of stuff), a chain-guard (no civilized person wants their bike to get their pants dirty) , and an internal hub (getting cut off and wanting to downshift without moving? yep, that's NY for you...).

Hope you enjoy it!

Ooh... and a generator hub for the lights too? Very nice.

And don't forget the fenders. Even if you don't bike in the rain, it makes it much nicer biking the day after the rain.

I love my city bike and yours seems to have all the check marks on the feature list and then some (powered lights I don't have).

Yep, how great is that! It really seems designed to be pleasant and easy to ride.

I got a bikebikebike as combined birthday/Christmas present from the folks (I love you, mammy!) I'd forgotten how much I love it - being able to take a spin out the countryside and get away from everyone is just fantastic.

Course, I'd also forgotten how desperately unfit I am, and that I live in a rather hilly town and that there are potholes and cars that don't believe in speed limits or overtaking bikes safely and mad dogs in the country that like chasing bikes, but sure it's all fun anyway.

W00t, congratulations on the new bike! Be safe, dude. And being desperately unfit won't last long if you're cycling around the place :-)
